Lex Atenveldtus section VIII. C. 1. specifies that in Atenveldt there shall be a Crown Tournament in September and March. This is a two day event with Crown Tournament held the first day and Queen's Champion Tournament on the second day.
Per Thegn Robin, Kingdom Seneschal (May 7, 2006 Kingdom Calendar meeting), Kingdom Event bids must have a projected profit as listed in the yearly Kingdom budget. The Kingdom Financial Committee will not consider bids that do not meet this projected Kingdom profit margin. As per the Atenveldt 2007 Annual Budget printed in the March 2007 Southwind, Crown Tournaments must make a minimum of $1,000 profit for the Kingdom of Atenveldt.
Since this is a Kingdom event, the appropriate Kingdom Officers will be in charge of their areas. As soon as you receive notification that you have been awarded the bid, contact them and request their assistance. They generally expect to be running each area, but it is courteous to ask and not just assume they will be helping. When you contact them, be sure to ask what assistance they will need from you.
The Kingdom Officers involved are generally the following:
Sometimes the Kingdom Officer themselves are not able to attend the event, in which case they will find an authorized individual to cover their area.
Space will be needed for a tournament field, Royal Pavilion, and populace viewing around the field. The Kingdom Earl Marshal should be able to give you the dimensions needed for the tournament field.
According to page 73 of the SCA Frequently Asked Questions, the Kingdom Earl Marshal has the responsibility and authority to conduct Crown Tournaments. However, the ultimate authority rests with the sovereign.
The King and Queen will also attend. (Review the Royalty and Courts at Events page for additional information on accomodating the Crown.) Since this is usually a camping event, a room is probably not available. Expect to have extra camping room for a Royal pavilion to be set up. This will not be Their personal camping tent, but an "official" tent where They can conduct business. Make sure to contact Their court herald for additional information.
Usually there is a feast served at the end of the first day. If that is planned, review the Feasts page.
This event is usually (but not always) a camping event. Please review the Camping Events witch is coming soon. Make sure that bathrooms and water will be available.
Often times there are other tournaments held on the second day as well as the Queen's Champion Tournament. Contact Their Majesties' herald to find out if this will be the case and what Their plans are.
