Why Paperwork is Necessary

There are many reasons for the paperwork. Some of the main ones are:

  1. The SCA is registered with the IRS as a 501c(3) non-profit educational organization. In order to keep this designation there are certain federal laws and regulations we must comply with. Much of the required paperwork helps to keep us in compliance.
  2. The SCA carries insurance, which all official groups also benefit from. Some of the required paperwork is so that the insurance company will continue to cover us. This coverage is especially important when searching for event sites. Many sites require insurance for rental. With the SCA carrying the main policy this makes things much easier for Autocrats/Event Stewards.
  3. The SCA is required to follow mundane law, as such there are federal, state, and local laws that must be adhered to. Some of the paperwork is required to fulfill these laws.
