Equestrian activities require additional planning on the part of the Event Steward. All equestrian activities should be coordinated through your local Equestrian Marshal or, if there is no local Equestrian Marshal, through the Kingdom Minister of Equestrian Arts.
In August 2004, the BOD (SCA Board of Directors) announced that Equestrian activities require specialized waivers for participants and additional signage. These requirements are listed in the SCA Marshal's Guide to Adult Equestrian Liability Waivers and Signage. Highlights of this document include the Arizona-specific Adult Equestrian Waiver (page 4) and the Arizona-specific Signage Requirements (page 48, with the "Standard Signage Wording" on page 47).
Whenever equestrian activities are included in an event or practice, additional insurance is required. However, there are different ways to order this insurance depending on whether it is needed for an event or a practice. The Equine Insurance Certificate Guidelines on the SCA website explains these differences. Please note that there is a $50 fee for each insurance certificate obtained and they must be ordered at least 30 days in advance of the date of the event or first practice.
