The SCA is a 501c(3) non-profit educational organization. Part of keeping this federal classification is educating the public about what the SCA does, and demonstrations (demos) are a great way of doing this! Requests for demos can come from a variety of places: schools, home schooling groups, churches, the Boy Scouts - these are only a few examples. Contact your local Demonstration Coordinator or Gold Key Officer for further information. If your group doesn't have a chatelaine or Gold Key Officer, contact your group's Seneschal or the Kingdom Gold Key Officer.
Things to Keep in Mind
- You, and everyone involved in the demo, are representing the SCA. You are the face of our group. Anything you say and do will reflect back on the SCA as a whole.
- Make sure to be professional and prompt.
- When talking to the person requesting the demo, get as much information as possible. Explain to them that we aren't a "renaissance festival" and inform them about what we can offer. Find out what they need and would like out of a demonstration. Remember to ask about any weapons policy they have.
- If they are requesting "fighting" at the demo, make sure there is a safe place for a weapons demo to be held. Explain to them that what we do isn't choreographed and there are certain safety issues that we must enforce.
- All demos must be approved by your local group's Seneschal. Make sure to discuss it with them as soon as possible.
